Meet the growers

Our close association with our local organic food producers is our greatest asset. Use this section of the website to find out more about the people who produce your food.

Visit any food retailer in the modern world and you will almost certainly have no idea whatsoever about the people responsible for producing the food you are about to buy. There is a high likelihood it will have been grown overseas, you have no way of knowing the production methods used, whether the farmers were sympathetic towards their environment or if the farm workers were treated fairly. Buy any processed food and you are divorced even further from the origins of the raw ingredients. To eat such foods, therefore, demonstrates a great deal of trust in a global food industry which, frankly, has done very little to earn this trust. This is not to say that all food producers are terrible and everyone should live in fear of their food. There are are a number of accreditation labels which help us choose foods that have some merit in their production methods, such as freedom foods, leaf, red tractor, fairtrade and, of course, organic. Even so, its still no substitute for first-hand knowledge of the grower themselves.

This is where The Cambridge Organic Food Co. is different. We collect produce directly from our growers every week and in doing so get to know them and trust them implicitly. We are also different in openly telling our customers who the growers are. Why wouldn't we? they are all dedicated to producing food to a very high standard, and true bastions of the ethics that underpin the organic movement.
