Local community buying group. Golden opportunity for solar power for those who act fast...
It is unlikely that there will ever be as good an opportunity to get into solar power again. Please read on to find out more about a local initiative headed by Amanda Fuller, who is a member of the COFCO organic box scheme.
Amanda became a local heroine last year when she organised a bulk purchasing group for solar panels in her home village of Coton. This scheme was known as eCoton. The participants of the scheme have not only made a positive impact to their individual carbon footprints (the average PV system saves around 1.5 tonnes of CO2 annually), they also made substantial savings on the cost of the installation by combining their purchasing power. What's more, the company who were chosen to perform the installations, Upbeat Energy, went above and beyond the call of duty to complete the installations before the feed-in tariff deadline, meaning it also proved a healthy financial investment for the participants as well.
Upbeat Energy are local to Cambridge and Amanda has joined forces with them to try and replicate her success with eCoton. Amanda estimates that, with the feed-in tariff of 43p, participants of the bulk purchase scheme can expect to recoup their investment within 5-6 years, and then continue to receive FiT payments (which are paid for 25 years, will rise with inflation and are also tax-free). Members of the Cambridge Organic Food Co. box scheme who might be interested in joining the new bulk purchasing group are invited to an information meeting to be held at the All Saints Community Hall in Melbourn on Wednesday 1st of February at 8.00PM.
