The Organic Kitchen Garden at Audley End House
Head Gardener: Mike Thurlow
Location: Audley End, Saffron Walden
The walled kitchen garden was restored to its former glory as a joint venture between English Heritage and HDRA (Henry Doubleday Research Association). Organic gardening techniques are adopted to produce a full range of fruit, vegetables and flowers. The gardens have been the focus of a lot of media attention, including an hour long special of 'Gardeners World' on BBC2. The gardens are open to the public at the same times as Audley End House.
Products: The gardens produce a full range of fruit and vegetables but in relatively small quantities. Look out especially for unusual varieties like Edzel Blue potatoes, purple French beans and yellow raspberries.
