Organic Box Scheme

The Cambridge Organic Food Co. Organic Box Scheme is one of the best ways of buying fresh fruit and vegetables.

Our range of boxes is listed below. The contents of the boxes are rotated each week to ensure you do not receive the same items all the time and to make sure you get to enjoy the best produce when it is in season. However, if you do not wish to have the default selection you are welcome to select your box contents from the 'Pieces & Fillers' list on this website.

If you would like to join our scheme please call 01223 873300 or send us an e-mail. We will require the following pieces of information.
1. Your Name and Title
2. Your Address
3. Your Telephone Number
4. A 'nominated box leaving place' (The place you would like us to leave your box should it be delivered at a time when you are not in)
5. The type of box you would like to try
6. Your 'Permanent Preferences' (This is a list of any particular like or dislikes you may have that will always be taken into consideration when your box is packed. eg. if you do not like peppers and never want to receive any please specify 'no peppers' and they will always be left out of your box. Please try to keep this list to a maximum of 5 preferences. Should you have more preferences than this please remember that you are welcome to select your box contents from our 'Pieces & fillers' list.)

Before we send your second box we like to have confirmation that you are pleased with the scheme and do indeed wish to continue on a regular basis. We would therefore be grateful if you would let us know one way or the other before your next box is due to arrive. If you do decide to join the scheme you will then automatically receive a box each week unless, of course, you inform us otherwise. The only other thing we ask is that you keep the box itself and return it to the driver when your next box is delivered. This way it can be reused, saving valuable resources.

Some Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I have to have to have all the base items?
Not at all. The potatoes, carrots, onions and mushrooms can all be exchanged for each other or for an extra filler. (eg. you can specify 'no potatoes but double carrots' or 'no onions but an extra filler').
Similarly you could specify an extra base item in place of one of your fillers (eg. double mushrooms but one fewer filler).
You can also exchange two base items or two fillers (or a combination of the two) for an extra 'Piece'
We do ask, however, that you only substitute a maximum of two base items.

2. Do I have to select my 'Pieces & Fillers' each week?
Most people accept the default selection each week. The contents will be rotated to ensure you get good variety and that you get to try the best things that are in season. However, the 'Pieces and Fillers' facility is always available should you wish to use it.

3. What are 'Pieces & Fillers' anyway?
To get an example of what the pieces and fillers are you can look at the 'Pieces & Fillers' list on this website by selecting 'Products' and then 'Pieces and Fillers' from the menu. The 'Pieces & Fillers' list is a list of the different types of fruit and vegetables for the box scheme each week. To find out how many pieces and fillers your box will contain refer to the box table above.

4. What if I'm going on holiday?
Just let us know the dates you are away and we'll make sure you do not receive a box while you are away.

5. Do I have to be in when the box is delivered?
No. If the box arrives at a time when you are not in it will be left in the 'nominated box leaving place' . If the 'nominated box leaving place' is uncovered and the weather is looking poor your box will be placed inside a bag to keep it dry.

6. How do I pay for the box?
The preferred method of payment is by standing order. Our bank account details are: Account Number: 87602822 Sort Code: 60-04-16. IMPORTANT: If you are making a payment into our account it is very important that you provide your customer code as the payment reference. Your customer code will appear on your statement next to 'A/c Ref' and will normally be the first few letters of your surname followed by a dash followed by your initial or first few letters of your christian name, all in capitals. If you are unsure of your customer code please contact us first. Alternatively you can pay the driver when the box is delivered either by cash or cheque (please make cheques payable either to 'The Cambridge Organic Food Co.' or 'COFCO'). If the box arrives at a time when you are not in it's no problem, you can pay the following week or the next time we catch up with you. If you will consistently not be in when your box is due to arrive you can leave a cheque, along with your empty box from the previous week, in the 'nominated box leaving place' (please do not leave cash unless the leaving place is secure). If there are more than two weeks' outstanding on your account at the end of the month you will be sent a statement.
